My first job after the move :)

This is my first local project.  You can see that the corner of the ceiling fell down.  The homeowner is doing the demolition of the plaster & lath.  Tomorrow I will come in with insulation and drywall to install a new ceiling.

My last project in White Co.

This is an old garage that I put a metal roof on.  For this project I was working under another contractor was was finishing up the metal siding after I left.  This is what I did on my last two days of working with him.  That is if I don't have to go back because I can't find enough work in my new area, let's hope not.

Tornado Damage

Earlier this summer the Yeoman United Methodist Church lost a section of their roof in two different storms back-to-back.  This is what that looks like.  It's amazing how a metal roof can get rolled up like a tin can.  This happened south of Monticello, IN.

Windows!

This is a bathroom window upstairs I replaced.  You can see the outline of the old window from the new siding the homeowners had me use right behind my ladder.  We talked about the option of replacing the partial sections of siding with new pieces so that you couldn't tell there was the old window, but it is the backside of a farm house facing the fields.  And the homeowner didn't want to buy more aluminum siding.

These pictures are of the living room and dining room windows mentioned in the previous post.  You can see where the shutters have been by the discoloration on the siding.  I'll have to find some pictures with the shutter reinstalled.

Living and Dining Room Remodel - Part 2

This picture is of the gutted dining room that was perhaps the first addition to the house.  We are thinking that at one time a previous owner enclosed a screened in porch resulting in this room.  The ceiling joists were very poorly installed. We had to place a shim on every ceiling joist in order to get the ceiling level and flat.  The 2x4 in the middle here is where the "new" ceiling joists met up with the old joists.  It had sagged 3-4" over the years.

The next two pictures are of the dining room with new windows, a new door, and drywall.

This last picture here is of the outside of the house entryway door into the little mud room that leads into the dining room. The roof had leaked for years into this small room resulting in a lot of rotten framing and extra repair.

Living and Dining Room Remodel

This is the living room with a hanging ceiling that we removed just before the picture was taken.

In this next picture you can see where we reinsulated the walls, added shims to some of the framing in order to flatten out the walls as much as possible, and you may notice something above the big picture window. We couldn't believe it when we gutted the room, but there is really no support for the weight of this 2 story home above the window. As a result there is a lot of pressure resting on top of that window, but it has been that way for at least 3 decades. The homeowners decided not to have us put in a much needed header across the top of the window.

Here are a couple of pictures of this room after drywall and leveling out the floor. The man in the picture is my help that I hired for this project. I was able to get him to take some time off from his jobs to help me with mine.

This is the new window in the living room.  The homeowners requested to do the painting after we primed the drywall.

Aye! I can't believe it has been all summer and most of fall since I've last been on here. That doesn't mean I haven't been busy doing somethings, but it does probably mean that I don't have many pictures.

Here are a couple of pictures that I do have. This is a coffee table that my mother started before she passed away, then my dad took over, then I saved the table top and scrapped everything else.

I had to replace quite a few broken tiles, so I replaced them with colored ones that I thought best represented my mom. So here it is, her memorial table.
